Jessica Lynn, MSW

Jessica Lynn is currently the Executive Director of South Carolina Campus Compact, a membership organization of university and college presidents and chancellors in South Carolina, working to promote and develop the civic purposes of higher education. Through this work, SCCC improves the ability of higher education institutions to partner with their communities to collectively impact community needs and provide real world learning for college students. Through SCCC Jessica also supervises 21 AmeriCorps VISTA members who are deployed across the state at member institutions focusing their efforts on anti poverty initiatives.

Jessica received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Furman University in 2000, and immediately following moved to Shanghai, China where she taught English privately and at an English training center. Upon her return from China, she worked as a marketing manager and graphic designer for a continuing education company offering courses to physical, occupational, and speech therapists across the nation. During this time she also became a volunteer Guardian ad Litem, advocating for the best interests of children involved in the court system due to situations of abuse and neglect.

In 2009 Jessica earned a Master of Social Work degree from Winthrop University propelling her into the role of Executive Director of The Haven Men’s Shelter in Rock Hill, SC. The Haven is a transitional shelter seeking to assist area men with addressing issues of homelessness and poverty, while meeting educational, employment, and physical and mental health needs. Through this position and her involvement with other local service agencies, she acquired an extensive understanding of the issues related to hunger and homelessness in York County.

Since becoming the director of SCCC in 2012, Jessica has gained a new perspective of leadership and civic engagement as they relate to higher education on a local, statewide, and national scale. She has developed a deep passion for speaking in educational settings in hopes of empowering others to develop their talents and become active leaders in their communities.
